What are our brands doing behind the scenes?
It’s taken us a while but the reality of climate change and our environmental impact is finally hitting home and the need to change our ways is greater than ever. Although I still have a lot to learn, I am starting to think more about what I do in my everyday life, products that I choose to buy or how I use them and the overall affect of these on our planet. Inevitably this led to considering the brands and companies I tend to favour and what affect this has.
I’m extremely fortunate to be supported by brands such as Dewerstone, PeakUK and Pyranha Kayaks, and it seemed only necessary that I looked in to their environmental ethics and initiatives to improve the current situation. After all, what’s the point of trying to improve my individual impact if I am going to represent manufacturers that are doing the opposite?
So I did a little digging on my three supporters, who are also conveniently three of my favourite brands, this is what I found…
So there we have it, Dewerstone, Peak UK and Pyranha are all putting the work in to cutting plastic and unnecessary waste, incorporating recycled materials in tho their products, adapting their manufacturing to be more environmental-conscious and donating funds to a range of worthwhile environmental organisations.
All of this is being done at their own expense, costing them not only a percentage of their overall total profits but also significantly more hours of work and a lot more effort. And we don’t even know about all the great stuff they’re doing! They’re doing it off their own backs because they genuinely care about making change and are committed to improving.
These brands, as well as many others, are helping to set a new standard in the industry, one that will encourage others to review and modify their products and processes.
I can honestly say that I am even more proud to be associated with these brands and all of the above only motivates me even more to keep doing what I can to help the cause.
It’s more important than ever before that we choose our brands and products wisely, minimise waste, continually look to improve our ways and fight the good fight. As individual progress will be small, but as a team we can achieve so much more.
